Great Dunmow Guitar Club

Dates for 2017-18

SUNDAY 7th OCTOBER - 2pm-6pm - VILLA-LOBOS WORKSHOP   £15 PLAYERS  £10 OBSERVERS

An informal but informative afternoon delving into the life and guitar music of some of the most important works ever written for the instrument. 6  slots available (30 minutes each player) to perform a work by Villa-Lobos and receive expert feedback on interpretation and technical matters from Tino Andersen, Vitor Noah and myself. Observers are most welcome. It is hoped everyone will go home knowing alot more about Villa-Lobos than they came with! The workshop is the second pat part of a Villa-Lobos weekend celebrating and showcasing his most often performed guitar works (see News and Events Page). Booking your place essential - just contact me.

Great Dunmow Guitar Club (GDGC) meets at St Mary's Room, Church Street, Great Dunmow CM6 2AD. Parking is available a minute's walk away next to St Mary's Church (not the pub car park next door!). Meetings will usually begin at 6pm and finish around 8.30pm (we can be flexible here - see dates above). The dates are the 3rd Sunday of the month during term time.

The aim of the club is to help players develop their performance skills and to promote the guitar and its music. Young players are most welcome to come along and try out their pieces to a friendly and supportive audience. A Performance Platform (45 minutes to an hour) will be for solo players or guitar based ensembles preparing for more substantial performances from A level recitals to paid public performances. A typical format for the meeting would be:

6-7pm - Player performances (10 solo slots available - just sign up!)
7.30-8.30pm - Performance Platform (Book a date!)

This page will advertise what is happening each meeting. All you need to do is contact me to book your place with the pieces to be performed.

The entrance fee is £4 per person (family ticket £10) to cover facility charges, refreshments and start a fund to help pay for future events. It is hoped that extra dates can be arranged for visiting professionals to give classes, workshops or concerts. St Mary's Church itself is beautiful and a perfect recital space.

So, I'm looking forward to hearing from you and have fun learning more about the guitar, it's wonderful music and the people who make it!
